FASTING

WATCH HOW YOU FAST!

I have to watch my heart and self HOW I fast.
Its easy to have the wrong motive, direction and purpose.
Its good to stop for awhile and examine why I am doing what I am doing.

New Year is coming ... it has to begin with PRAYER and FASTING.

An ARTICLE by Wesley Deuwel below would be of great help to keep me on track.

The Discipline Of Fasting
By Wesley L. Duewel

Fasting is a God-ordained form of self-denial.
The very nature of intercession calls for as much or more self-denial than any other form of spiritual activity. The major work of prayer and fasting from food is normally in secret. We think of fasting as abstaining primarily from food. However, fasting may include abstaining from such normal activities as sleep, recreation, and other special enjoyments. As far as possible, it should include abstaining from social relations with others while you fast. You may need to fast while still discharging family responsibilities or your regular work, or you may be able to get completely alone for the fast period
(1 Corinthians 7:5).

Andrew Bonar defined fasting as abstaining from anything that hindered prayer.
Though himself an avid reader, he had to fast at times from his excessive love for reading to find time to commune with God.

Phillips Brooks described fasting as abstaining from anything innocent in itself in order to grow more spiritually or serve God more effectively. Perhaps for our generation fasting should often be from radio and TV in order to give ourselves more totally and intensely to prayer.

The purpose of fasting is

(1) to subject the physical to the spiritual and to give priority to spiritual goals;
(2) to disentangle oneself for a time from one’s environment, material things, daily responsibilities, and cares; and
(3) to devote one’s whole spiritual attention to God and prayer. We do not imply that daily duties and life’s necessities are unholy or unspiritual; rather, we subject permissible things, even profitable things, to greater spiritual priorities.

Andrew Murray taught, "Prayer is the one hand with which we grasp the Invisible; fasting the other, with which we let loose and cast away the visible."

Fasting added to prayer makes our communion more precious to the Lord and our intercession more powerful in its ministry to the Lord (Acts 13:2), as He royally intercedes from heaven’s throne
(Rom. 8:34).

What, then, is the role of fasting?

Fasting is integral to a life of deep devotion and intercession.
Anna the prophetess is a beautiful example of such a lifestyle (Luke 2:37).
Fasting is essential to a life of personal spiritual discipline, and such discipline greatly enhances and empowers prevailing prayer.

When you long to strengthen and discipline your prayer habits and to add a new dimension to your prevailing in prayer, add fasting.
When you seek to humble yourself before God in total submission to His will and in total dependence on His almighty power, add fasting.
When you face an overwhelming need, a human impossibility, and your soul hungers to see God intervene by supernatural power, add fasting.

In such situations you may well find such a powerful drawing to fasting that you are sure you will fail the Lord unless you set apart time for fasting prayer.
Scripture is clear in this point: God does call His people to fasting (Isaiah 22:12-13).

Tragically, so many are not walking closely enough with the Lord to feel His holy drawing and to hear His gentle voice. How shocked many Christians will be in heaven to see what blessings they missed and how often they failed all that God intended to do through them just because they did not add fasting to their prayer.

But you are more likely to hear God’s voice calling you to fast if you already have been making fasting a regular part of the spiritual discipline of your life.
Jesus said of us today, "Then they will fast" (Matt. 9:15).

You and I have no more right to omit fasting because we feel no special emotional prompting than we have a right to omit prayer, Bible reading, or assembling with God’s children for lack of some special emotional prompting.

Fasting is just as biblical and normal a part of a spiritual walk of obedience with God as are these others.

Why don’t we fast more?

For the same reason we hesitate to deny ourselves and take up our cross in other ways!
Yet Jesus said so emphatically, "If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me" (Matthew 16:24).
You are an incomplete disciple unless you do.
But denial of self is seldom preached and all too seldom practiced.
What more biblical and Christlike way is there to deny self than to fast as we pray?

How do you take up your cross?
To take up a cross is not to have someone place the cross upon you.
Sickness, persecution, and the antagonism of other people are not your real cross.
To take up a cross is a deliberate choice.
We must purposely humble ourself, stoop down, and pick up the cross for Jesus.
Fasting is one of the most biblical ways to do so.

You can indeed deny yourself some expenditure and give the money saved to missions or to some other aspect of God’s work. Such an action could be taking up your cross. You could identify with an unpopular cause for Jesus’ sake and thus take up your cross. But no way is more God-approved and more constantly available than to add fasting to your prayer.
In what form of self-denial have you found most blessing?
Or don’t you practice self-denial?

There may be times when physically you cannot fast more than one or two meals, rather than a full day or more. Perhaps your responsibilities demand that you eat, alone or with others. But you can still fast.

Do like Daniel.
He fasted partially for three weeks, and God wonderfully honored his fast.
As a prime minister he had to attend some functions. He had to preserve his strength and could not hibernate for three weeks.
So Daniel fasted from choice food (i.e., he ate only the bare essentials) and from the use of lotions (Daniel 10:3).

God is not a slave driver. He understands your health and your situation. He wants to keep you well and effective. Ask the Spirit’s guidance, and He will show you how and when to fast. But as far as possible, spend the fast mealtimes in prayer. Set apart a period of hours for prayer, especially if you are in a prayer battle.

Satan does not want you to fast. He did not want Jesus to fast. He will try to tempt you with the thought of food. He will try to get you to forget your commitment to fast, just as he tries to keep you from prayer. Satan tries to make you hesitate to fast, to procrastinate about fasting.
Why be surprised? He fears tremendously lest your prayer be empowered by fasting. He may even temporarily try to battle you all the more if you fast. He may become desperate. You are greatly endangering his work when you fast and pray.

Watch Your Motive

Remember, the motive in your fasting is all-important. Remember what fasting is not:

1.  It is not a way to earn God’s blessing and God’s answer to your prayer.
You are never worthy of His help and blessing. You implore His love and mercy. You do not earn any aspect of His grace.

2.  It is not a way to bypass obedience.
Prayer and fasting do not change your need to be obedient to God and His clearly revealed will. God will not hear your prayer, even if you add fasting, if you are out of His will in some regard. Take the steps of obedience, and then begin to fast and pray.

3.  It is not an automatic way to miracle.
Fasting is not some spiritualized form of magic. It does not work by itself. Fasting may do you physical good quite apart from your spiritual condition, but fasting is not some secret of power available to just anyone. Fasting has power only as it is added to your humbly seeking God’s face. The more closely you are walking with God, the greater can be the spiritual values from your fasting.

You may not be able to stop all of your other activities while you fast for twelve hours or for a day. But if your soul is constantly crying to God as you go about your work, if every moment you are reaching out to Him as you fulfill your responsibilities, then whatever fasting you can do adds tremendous power to your seeking God’s answer.

4.  It does not accumulate power to your credit, so that you can display it at will.
You do not use the Holy Spirit--He uses you. The moment you parade your power, it is gone.
The moment you flaunt your fasting, it does you no good, a warning that Jesus made very clear.
If you want God’s reward for your prayer, fasting, and good works, keep them as hidden as possible.

Jesus took it for granted that you would do all three, so He does not say, "Pray," but "when you pray." He does not say, "Fast," but "when you fast" (Matthew 6:2,5,16). Jesus tells you to let your fasting, as far as possible, be known only to God and He will reward you (v. 18).

CAROL JOCOBO
My Calling Testimony

Hello Everyone!
I am Carol Jacobo present Siteleader / Administrator of His Life Ministries La Carlota City.

I received the Lord Jesus Christ last October 25,1986.
I was 16 years old in a Christian Church at our place before I started to serve in the ministry as a Choir Member.
It was stopped when we changed our residency to Kabankalan City in the Year 1993.
I got married and have a son named Thom Carlo. We decided to go back in our own place at La Carlota City 2004.
I have no church connection for almost 2 years (in short backsliding).
Then one of my friends told me to attend their Sunday Worship Celebration at the Piazza Resto and introduced to me to the Church Planters of His life Ministries -- Pastor Ranty and Faith Camponion.

I was first observing because I'm not used for the kind of praise and worship with clapping and dancing.
But in a few weeks after attending the His Life Service I was at peace, felt welcomed and enjoyed the Word of God through the sense of humor of Pastor Ranty.
I got alive and not board hahaha.
It was then I caught the process of discipleship, until I finished my LGL course at HLM LTS and many more trainings that I attended onward.  It brought a lot of changes in my life.

I started in the ministry as a Praise and Worship leader.
I received the calling of the Lord to lead a Small Group.
Then, I already felt that I have the calling to take care of more "flocks" when I dreamt and saw Big Wings covering  many people.

I ask the Lord what's the meaning of this dream?
It was in the Year 2016 that the Lord answered me and confirmed through my Pastor and his wife.
They told me that they were transferring to Iloilo City for another assignment.
Then they appointed me to be the one to take care of His Life La Carlota Church.
With big eyes I said OH NO .... Lord hindi ko kaya...it was not me...I could not sleep, could not eat, I cried a lot and said this is not my desire and dreams ... but God's purposes will always prevail.

I prayed a lot until I felt the peace in my heart and I responded to God and said YES LORD! \
I will obey and submmit to You.
I will stand and trust in your promises that you will never leave me nor forsake me.
Now I am presently pastoring and leading His Life La Carlota Church under our Senior Pastor Pastor Joebert Ramos with Bishop Ranty Camponion and also under the covering of my Life Group Leader Doctor Arnee Pacete.

For almost 15 years since I started it was not easy to lead different types and shapes, and attitudes and character of people but with the help of the Holy Spirit that counsels and guided me every day, bisan may mga talakladon the Lord keeps on sustaining me with His strength.
To God be all the glory!!!

PASTOR RAYMOND JAMORA
My Calling Testimony

I was in high school when my friend invited me to a youth gathering at the basement of Lopue’s San Sebastian, in Bacolod.
Pastor Joebert was preaching that time, and he was talking about God is love, and that God showed His love by sending His Beloved Son Jesus to die on the cross for my sin.

I ended up giving my life to Jesus that day.
I later learned that that youth group was called Reach Out.

I got involved in that youth ministry, and when His Life Ministries started, I also joined and soon, I was serving, being trained, and I was leading in the church.

Then, an opportunity for pastoral ministry came.
A church in Brgy Sum-ag, Bacolod City is about to be launched around the year 2007, if I am not mistaken…….and Ptr. Joebert approached me and told me to pray about pastoring or leading this church.

The way I responded to this call of God is very simple.
Walang masyadong drama.
But I prayed for it, considered it, thought about it and talked about it with my wife.
As a full-time servant I will be needing her support.

Whatever task and direction, we have to be a team.
Thankfully, until now, here in Cagayan de Oro, we are 100% together in pursuing God’s plans and call for our life.

There are different ways God calls us, but my prayer is this:
that you will recognize it, pray about it, and eventually accept it.

My friends, it is worth it. I can attest to that.

This is Pastor Raymond Jamora, blessed to have served God and will continue to serve Him here in Cagayan de Oro and the rest of Mindanao.

God bless you all!

JIREH GRAJO
My Calling Testimony

I got saved when I was studying in college.
Although my parents are both Christians, I know that I don't personally have a relationship with God through faith.

At school, a Christian youth group organized a retreat event for students.
I joined the retreat and that's where I truly encountered Jesus and received Him as my personal Lord and Savior. Starting there, I journeyed with God through my church who is so passionate about Jesus.

His Life Ministries is a bible-based, Jesus-centered evangelical Church in the Philippines.
I joined the church’s discipleship group called "Life Groups" and it helped me grow in my relationship with God and my ministry to the other people. Also, the church trained me to reach out to others through evangelism, preaching, and teaching.

While working as a nurse, I also served the church as one of the youth pastors.
I did media-related work, organized weekend retreats, and taught in our leadership school.
These experiences built me to serve God faithfully and help my community.

Moreover, I actively participated in short-mission trips that gave me a passion for cross-cultural ministry.
So, when my church called for those who wanted to go for long-term international missions, I volunteered. My church appointed me to lead a group of missionaries to Thailand. Since 2016, my team is actively doing mission work through campus evangelism, Sunday services, and discipleship. I am also studying for a Master's Degree in Religious Education - Intercultural Concentration, to further equip me in the field.

God is gracious to make me part of His work in Thailand. I am saved by His grace and through faith so that I can glorify Him through evangelizing the lost, equipping the believers, training the disciples, and launching leaders for ministry.

MAI FLORES
My Calling Testimony

Good evening, everyone! I am Maileen Flores and am currently serving the Lord in fulltime ministry at HLM Makati.
I received the Lord Jesus Christ 15 years ago thru Campus Mission when I was in College.
Just like any other typical student, I always wanted to study hard and earn a degree so I could work and live a comfortable life. Though I already know the Lord, I thought Christian life was just like that-- studying or working while going to church on a weekend, not until I was discipled and introduced to a much deeper process.

It was during our Crossover Weekend when I first felt the burden to win my family, classmates and friends.
The burden never stopped and it continued until I got my first job. I started sharing Jesus to my workmates until I remember one moment, when I was staring at a blank space in front of my computer monitor and asked this question, "Is this really just this? Lord, I want more." Until I got to the point that I cannot focus on my work anymore and felt the need to end my job. I thought I was just bored and stressed, so I decided to just rest for awhile, and while resting, serve the Lord all out in the ministry as a servant leader. Long story short, I found myself enjoying where I am until I received the burden to be a fulltime pastor.

It took time to really accept the call.
There were many in denial stage knowing that the call is so costly.
Lots of doubts and "what if's" were crossing my mind, but the burden seemed to be heavier that all the questions combined. Knowing that the Lord is Sovereign, I decided to trust Him with everything.
So I prayed and I waited, until September of 2020 when it came to life.

I sent my Letter of Intent to Ptr. JR Ramos and by the grace of God, he accepted it and had me enrolled to HLM Divinity School together with other leaders who desire to serve the Lord in a much deeper level.

Being in a fulltime pastoral ministry may not be easy but all I can say is, "Jesus is worthy!"

Philippians 3:8 ESV
Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.

To God be all the glory!

KERVIN GO GAW
My Testimony about being in the Fulltime Ministry

I remembered when it was our youth camp.... IT was The GAME OF TRIBES SEASON 1.
One of our speaker talked about INHERITANCE, the story of Esau and Isaac and the message was so powerful that I received it whole heatedly.  During the the ministry time the Lord showed me a vision and I saw I was preaching to thousands of people and going to places that I have never been before.
During those time I didn't answer THE CALL.

And in the Year 2018 everything began to fall apart for me because I have experienced a lot of heartbreaks -- from my family and relationships.  I am also not passionate about my work during that time.
I just had to do my work everyday and was doing it out of routine.  Down deep in my heart, I was looking for something greater to do.

Then there was an event that the Lord reminded me of my calling.
After a night of drinking and I was already drunk.
I went directly to the bathroom and vomited and took the shower..... then there was word in my mind that suddenly popped up: "IN EVERY EVENT THAT HAPPENNED IN YOUR LIFE, I NEVER LEFT YOU" and suddenly my drunkenness suddenly was gone or "naampawan" because of that .... I was shocked because tears were falling from my face. That was the first time that I cried to the Lord again.

Then another confirmation happened when I was working, I was conversing with a client then suddenly tears started falling ... and a word suddenly came and said: "YOU WERE NEVER MEANT FOR HERE, YOU WERE MEANT FOR GREATER THINGS".
And finally, I know in my spirit and in my heart that the Lord was calling me.
And without a doubt, I chatted Pastor JR about this and he replied: I SAW THIS COMING!

And even my family BLESSED me and confirm my calling.
And after that I came back to Bacolod to be a student and a learner at the DIVINITY SCHOOL.

Now the Lord has been good and faithful. In the ministry that He has given me.

This is my Full Time Call Testimony.
From doubtful to faithful.

by Baughart Sison
I accepted the LORD JESUS CHRIS T as my LORD and SAVIOR by force last November 28, 1987.
My mother was instrumental.
It was when I was in Grade 5.  She is the first convert in our family.
I first received my calling to be a Pastor when I joined YWAM in 1996 when Pastor Jerome Ocampo of Jesus' Flock Church, one of our teachers in The HOLY SPIRIT prayed and prophesied over men.
At first I did not mind it, till 2009.
Then another experience I had was when a Guest Pastor of HLM from USA an Indian, preached in one of our SWE.
After the Church Service while we were fixing up our instruments, he called me and said "it's been a long time you were not responding to GOD". Then by 2017 I responded to "the call" to be in Full Time Ministry Work.

MORE TESTIMONIES
by Greg Magracia

Hi! My name is Greg.
Currently, I am an Intern Pastor at His Life Ministries and the National Director of Youth Xtreme, our youth network.
I received Jesus as my Lord during our Crossover Weekend on December 2012.
The desire to serve the Lord in the full time pastoral ministry started when a couple of people prayed for me during camps, conferences, and services. They would tell me that God impressed to them that I will preach to people.
I was still a student during those times. As I involved myself to campus ministry and lifeg roup leading, my heart to serve and lead intensified.
My leadership capacity was greatly tested when I was appointed to be the Worship Pastor of our Tribo Camp 2017. You can say that it was a sudden decision from the leadership, yet by the grace of God, I was able to pull off my responsibilities. After that camp, my desire to lead the youth to Jesus increased, even during my work days, I would apply for an undertime just to make time for preparations for our Xtreme Friday Nights.
It came to a point where while I was working, I began to contemplate about my then-current job and asked myself if it was worth my life. And at that moment, I realized that I have greater joy serving full-time rather than working in my day-job.

October 2018, I resigned from my work and I passed my letter of intent for full-time pastoral ministry around December of the same year. I got accepted January of 2019 and since then, I have been serving the Lord through preaching, teaching, leading, administrating, equipping, and encouraging the Body of Christ in His Life Ministries.
I also went full-time for YX and it has been a blast.

I praise God for the privilege to serve Him so far.
It was His grace that called me, it's still His grace that sustains me, and it will be His grace that will preserve me until I see Him face to face.

This is my testimony. Soli Deo Gloria!

noting COUPONS - missionally

Last Night during our TRADITIONAL "Light The Night Pre-Christmas SERVICE",
I introduced the IDEA of COUPON BLESSING SERVICES.

What is a COUPON BLESSING SERVICE?
It is a MEETING or a SERVICE by which we INVITE people to come and receive a GIFT via a COUPON for free!

As they come (numbered and controlled), we must guarantee that each COMER will be receiving a GIFT.

Gifts may start from the following:
  • RICE
  • FOOD PACKS
  • BASIC NEEDS
  • TOYS
  • A BIBLE
  • ETC

In the light of this, we must make sure that people will HEAR the GOSPEL and will be given an OPPORTUNITY to receive the GREATEST FREE GIFT of ALL:
The LORD JESUS CHRIST, via a "SINNERS PRAYER".

We know that it is the work of the Holy Spirit to convict people of SIN, RIGHTEOUSNESS and JUDGEMENT, and all we can do is to make sure that the GOSPEL and KINDNESS of God be displayed to all people.

HERE'S A PRAYER (sinners prayer*), we may introduce to each one who will come ...

SINNER'S PRAYER*

The Sinner's Prayer is an evangelical Christian term referring to any prayer of repentance, prayed by individuals who feel convinced of the presence of sin in their lives and have the desire to form or renew a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
