REST not because you are so so so TIRED but because you JUST GRADUATED from a discipline of STUDY and DESIRES to Celebrate really well!!

Ask a person who just graduated from College .... They know what this mean.

This kind of a REST is for the productive, the achiever and the finisher!!

2️⃣
REST not because of SIN but because of a COMING PROMOTION.

You are just getting ready to be stretched for more. This is an exciting kind of a REST.

3️⃣
REST not because YOU are to be REPLACED but because you are ready to LAY HANDS on a SUCCESSOR.

You bore fruit. 

Someone took a hold of your ideas, passion, vision and ways. This is so delightful --- seeing a disciple / apprentice succeed!

THEY are now 10x Better!

4️⃣
REST yes AS well too --- because of the need to RENEW, RETHINK and RETOOL. One of the best discoveries there is is:  "WHEN YOU WANT TO CHANGE YOUR BEST!"  This is because of journeying up with a group that is growing and increasing and changing -- WANTING TO LEVEL UP.

This is a catalytic REST. 

It's a pause for you to be able to run faster, farther, higher and different.

5️⃣

R E S T !

Try it .... Then you will FIND out the mystery of GROWTH. 

You will see yourself GROW, your people GROW, many GROW without your 'control'. 

You have stepped into KINGDOM atmosphere :-)

The Kingdom of God will continue to ADVANCE .... Because of HIM and His Plans and Purposes.

ANOTHER WAY WOULD BE:

Just to SHOW the Prepared Produced Preaching to a Group of People after the PRELIMINARIES of a WORSHIP EXPERIENCE led by a Local Team. Just like what HLM CEBU is doing for the PAST WEEKS (May June July 2024).

NOTE:

WE CAN DO THIS anytime, anywhere, anyday.  

We just need someone to RELATE and ENGAGE PEOPLE FOR SPIRITUAL GROWTH.

This move must be HIGH in RELATIONSHIPs BUILDING.

WE WILL:

1.  

Have a Physical Gathering of People.

2. 

The Ones who will gather will be led by a Person who will Welcome and Pray and Prepare ALL to view a PRODUCED VIDEO complete with Intros, A Song, Announcements, WORD of God Preached and an Invitation to Respond.

3.  

END with a MEAL (in the context of Sunday Early AM --- Coffee and Rice and Protein and Noddles and Juice).

You can PREPARE LUNCH or DINNER or Thick Soup with lots of BREAD.

4.

ENCOURAGE PEOPLE to stay for a Small Group Discussion over 1 or 2 Questions Plus PRAYER.

QUESTION for ALL to Share: 

What touched you in the SERMON today, and would like to immediately APPLY this week?

AND THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL: A LEADER who knows HOW TO NAVIGATE all throughout the GATHERING.

Our goal is to Make Disciples of JESUS CHRIST.

CONSIDERATIONS:

• There must be a reliable InterNet Connection (Piso WIFI will do). BETTER if always DOWNLOADED before PLAYING.
• There must be an appropriate Venue.
• There must be a TV SCREEN or LED SCREEN or Projector Screen with clear AUDIO.  Lights must be on low light for Video to be CLEAR.
• There must be a hearty MEAL.
• There must be a loving and Faith building SERVANT LEADER who knows how to shepherd a TEAM. HIGH RELATIONAL and LOVING and SHARP.
• There must be UNDERSTANDABILITY (yes may be recapped in their own dialect). WE USE ENGLISH during the VIDEO CAST.
• There must be a working BUDGET.
• There must be a SET UP TEAM knowledgeable of MEDIA connectivity.
• There must be PEOPLE to come (therefore we must INVITE or HAUL them to the Venue).
• There must be a GOAL:  AND THAT is to Make Disciples of Jesus Christ!
1. CrossRoads©️ must be INTENTIONALLY done.
2. CrossOver Enlistments for a Weekend must be PURSUED.
3. CrossWay Studies must be Envisioned.

John Wesley’s Advice

For some years I have had a postcard with “John Wesley’s Advice on How to Preach” sitting on a shelf.  

I think one of my children gave it to me.  I thought it would be fun to work through these twelve points and ponder them together. 

Full disclosure, I have no dog in the fight when it comes to John Wesley.  

I don’t feel the need to defend him, nor critique him.  So, let’s just engage with these points and see what we can learn in the process.

1. 

Always suit your subject to your audience.  

Well, some might want to argue that since “all Scripture is God-breathed and useful…” therefore this advice is not necessary.  Just preach the Bible and it will be suitable, they might say.  Yes, 2 Timothy 3:16 is certainly true, but it does not mean that every passage of Scripture is equally useful to every set of listeners.  Some will take too much work to arrive at a point of usefulness for the listener.  For example, if I am speaking to a group of children with English as a second language who have no church background, then I probably don’t want to preach from Leviticus.  Seems obvious enough. Technically it may be useful Scripture, but for this group, it is probably not the best-suited text.  

We could restate the advice as follows, “make sure you preach to the people who are in front of you.”  Prayerfully ponder who they are so that your preaching will be suitable for them.  Think about your passage choice, your vocabulary, your manner, your demeanour, your volume, your speed . . . everything.  It would be unloving not to do so.

2. 

Do not preach more than twice a day during the week or three times on Sunday.  

This feels a bit specific to his context.  It was a day of horse riding, handwriting and voice projection.  We live in a different world.  And yet, we are still human.  Perhaps the point still stands.  It will be tempting to do more and more because sometimes, there is more and more to be done.  We would be wise to evaluate our ministry schedules, and our tendency to accept invitations so that we know our limits.  Each of us is thoroughly capable of burning out or flaming out, so let’s think through our limits before we hit them.

Incidentally, I have been in settings where I crammed in as many teaching sessions as could fit and went way beyond these limits. Sometimes there may be a place for sacrificially serving like that, especially during a short and defined window (i.e. a conference or a visit to a place).  Even if we do that, we need to know our own capacity to give, our ability to sleep under pressure, our mental state if our sleep is less than ideal, and our recovery plan for after the event or visit is over.  And one thing is clear to me – we cannot sustain anywhere near as much as we can achieve during these brief windows of time.  Typically there will have been weeks of work prior to the conference or visit. And normal life simply needs more margin – not only for preparation, and for rest, and other responsibilities, but also margin for the unannounced encroachments that always hit us when we think we have found the perfect schedule.
