CITY TAKING -- The NORTH SOUTH EAST WEST Movement AND MORE!

1 ------------ ONE
PROBABLY one of the best things
that happened in our STRETCH YEARS 2014-2015
at His Life was the idea of having a ONE CITY CHURCH located in FOUR DIFFERENT CORNERS [aka: The His Life CENTRAL -- North, South, East, West] in Bacolod City, where His Life Ministries started twenty-two years ago!
  • This took a lot of sacrifice for many of our existing smaller congregations who were MERGED together to HARVEST with all of their might at an assigned CORNER of the City!
  • This also took a lot of listening, praying and fasting for the LEAD PASTORS of these corners to cast their hearts and minds to shepherd the flock the LORD will allow them to have in their respective assignments.
  • This also took a lot of adjustments for every member of each MEGA congregation having a goal to reach the Next 1000 even the NEXT 2000 to decide where to volunteer; to decide which service schedule to participate; to decide where to bring their family and friends around the city.
  • A PRAYER to duplicate this Strategy in Major Cities of the Philippines and even around the world is a possibility waiting for her time to manifest.

2 ------------ TWO
ANOTHER THING that was great in our
STRETCH YEARS of 2014-2015 was the formulation of a SYSTEM that would serve more and more people excellently via basic Administration BOTH locally and Nationally.
  • Thanks to the His Life Administrators Group around the Philippines.
  • Glory to God for our Central Bank Signatories [BACOLOD LEVEL].
  • Praise the LORD for our JR-DR Top Leadership Management Volunteers System.
  • Hallelujah to our Volunteers running our ever expanding One His Life Missions Department.

3 ------------ THREE
ONE MORE THING that was truly marvelous that happened in our STRETCH YEARS of 2014-2015 was the looking after the marginalized poor of  our communities via His Life House Churches and Villages around the Philippines!
  • Although embryonic in her current stage, nevertheless we have been challenged to pray more and see more action in this part of the work God has exposed us into. This will truly be a growing ministry focus till Jesus comes!
  • Partnerships both local and global are underway!  More LORD!

4 ------------ FOUR
LAST and never ever the least was the answering of the ringing call of God addressed to many more young people who will go into FULL TIME PASTORAL MINISTRY taking over Cities and Countries till JESUS COMES!
  • an honest to goodness look into Theological in-depth training/s is being considered like never before at His Life.
  • seriousness of seeing a NATIONAL Church Movement via KEY CITY PASTORS for the next Generation is being entertained and addressed [with a Global intention in the future].

WE HAVE ONLY JUST BEGUN!

YEAR/S 2016-2017 at HIS LIFE MINISTRIES

As the Waters Cover the Sea (Habakkuk 2:14)
(borrowed from WRH, OnePlace, Alex Dodson )

Should we expect the gospel to be successful in this age?
There are those who prophesy certain defeat for the gospel in this world that all will get worse and worse and that Satan and his forces will increase. Things will get so bad that the church will have to be taken out of the way and then destruction will come on the world. Yet, is this really what the Bible teaches? Is the gospel so impotent that it will go down in defeat and that Satan will take over the world? Nations that were once Christian are now coming under the control of Satan’s Kingdom.
Is there no future hope for these nations in this age? Should we consider those nations as completely lost forever? Habakkuk is a book that gives us much hope for the future. Though things looked bad in his time, yet God promised better things to come. The nations that were then in power would not succeed in their evil intentions.  God would win in the end. His cause would prevail.

Habakkuk 2:14 says, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” The previous verse shows that the nations will not be successful in their evil intentions when it says, “Has not the Lord Almighty determined that the people’s labor is only fuel for the fire, that the nations exhaust themselves for nothing? The Kingdom of Satan is not going to win. God’s kingdom will prevail. Satan and all his forces cannot stop the Kingdom of God. He will try and he has tried, but he will not succeed. There will come a time when the knowledge of the Lord will cover the whole earth as the waters cover the sea. It is interesting to note the interpretation given to this verse by Bible scholars from an earlier time. This same verse is given in Isaiah 11:9 on which Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) comments saying, “Now the kingdom of Christ shall in the most strict and literal sense be extended to all nations, and the whole earth. There are many passages of scripture that can be understood in no other sense. What can be more universal than Isaiah 11:9. ‘For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.’ As much as to say, as there is no part of the channel or cavity of the sea, but what is covered with water; so there shall be no part of the world of mankind but what shall be covered with the knowledge of God.” (p. 315, The History of Redemption) Instead of relegating this verse to some future age after Christ returns, Edwards interprets it as referring to this age and the victory of the gospel in this world in which we live.
John Gill (1697-1771) makes the same interpretation as Edwards. In commenting on Habakkuk 2:14, Gill writes, “…and the great spread and large abundance of this knowledge communicated by the preaching of the gospel is thus illustrated and exemplified, as the waters cover the sea; expressing the nature of gospel doctrines, revealing the glory of Christ and his grace, which, like waters, refresh and make fruitful; and the force and power of them, bearing down all before them, like an inundation of water when it breaks its banks; and likewise the depths of them, these being the deep things of God; and more especially the general spread and large abundance of them, and of the knowledge conveyed by them; which will fill the earth, as the waters of the sea fill up and cover the vast chasm prepared for them…”  (from John Gill’s Commentary on Habakkuk – www.studylight.org )

Early pioneer missionaries such as William Carey and David Livingstone had the same outlook as Habakkuk 2:14. They proclaimed a gospel that could convert whole nations and whole continents to Christ.  After laboring in India for five and one-half years, Carey and his colleagues finally had one convert in 1800. They said, “He was only one, but a continent was coming behind him. The divine grace which changed one Indian’s heart could obviously change a hundred thousand.”

SAMPLER GUIDE for LYT d NYT
HIS LIFE MINISTRIES Events Guide
For LYT d NYT
In the Quest of Making Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ …
(see Matthew 28:19, 20).

Continue TO  LIGHT the NIGHT!

(1)  WHEN You Feel That NIGHT is Coming … Be Quick to Switch on the LIGHT!

The BLESSING that God has instituted has to be continued through Our Households and Families.  This also include our Spiritual Household … the LOCAL Church!
The BLESSING includes 5 key elements.  It is a 5-fold act that should be done regularly.

(1)  MEANINGFUL TOUCH.  TOUCH
(2)  A SPOKEN MESSAGE.  TALK
(3)  ATTACHING HIGH VALUE TO THE ONE BEING BLESSED.
“Praise Worthy Directed Thoughts”  THINK
(4)  PICTURING A SPECIAL FUTURE FOR THE ONE BEING BLESSED.  TIME
(5)  AN ACTIVE COMMITMENT TO FULFILL THE BLESSING.  “Intentional Giving”. THINGS

To BLESS is to receive, accept, ascribe high value to, and consider a person as a success. Primary meaning is “to empower to prosper”; to succeed; to do  well; to thrive.

A good definition, then of To Curse would be “to disempower from prospering”.

>>Bible STUDY ….  Philippians 2:14-16
14 In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing,
15 so that no one can speak a word of blame against you. You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of crooked and perverse people. Let your lives shine brightly before them.
16 Hold tightly to the word of life, so that when Christ returns, I will be proud that I did not lose the race and that my work was not useless.

Commentary:  Philippians 2:14-16
Our life should be characterized by moral purity, patience, and peacefulness, so that we will “shine brightly” in a dark and depraved world. A transformed life is an effective witness to the power of God’s Word. Is your life shining brightly, or is it clouded by complaining and arguing? Shine out for God.

(Song:  SHINE JESUS SHINE)

=Everything in PRAISE and THANKSGIVING and JOY!
=Everything in the Spirit of OBEDIENCE.
=Everything with a WHOLEHEARTED HEART.
>>> God is attracted to Praise & Worship;  Obedience & Honor.
>>> Blamelessness and Purity should be our GOAL!
>>> Shine like stars . . . as we hold out the WORD of LIFE!

It is Easy ...
(a)  To Be CRITICAL
We are in a Crooked World; a Broken World;  a Kulang-Kulang World.
We are in an Imperfect World!
(b)  To Be IRRITATED
The HEAT;  the WEATHER;  the “gutom”;  the people around us.
The delays;  the high prices of commodity;  the perceived LOW IQ of people …
(c)  To COMPLAIN
There is even a Complaints Department.
it is a GIVEN;  it is a RIGHT;  it is a NEED;  for some it is a LIVING!

These are rampant NOT just in Establishments but at HOMES, SCHOOLS, and in the CHURCH

Because of LYT the NIGHT in the PAST ... (jr's thoughts)

  • I Became more Conscious

Of my comments at home, work and in public places.
Of my thoughts regarding our Nation
Of my thoughts regarding my fellow workers
BOTH in the Congregation I am serving and the Body of Christ here in the City!

  • I am more Convicted Regarding Acts of Blessings

Privately—home, touch, say a word of compliment
Publicly—keeping the surroundings clean and etc.
Generosity became a desire
Prayer of Blessings as Driving, Walking, Seeing a Church Building or even a Parade for an Anniversary of a certain group (school, business, etc.)

  • I Conquered the

Spirit of being Comfortable — that is meeting in a covered area for prayer.
Spirit of being ashamed of the READING of SCRIPTURES publicly!
This was done in the Early Church’ Time!
PRAYER     MEETING
PREACHING     HEALING
DOING ACTS of MERCY
never for show … but rather demonstrating the love and will of God that has come!  The love of God is both INTIMATE and WORLDWIDE!

START a LYT the NIGHT!   — secure a permit; meet only for an hour; sing; pray; bless …

"Do not be overcome by evil,
but overcome evil with good."   Romans 12:21

PRACTICAL Lighting of the Night …

(1)  Sing and Play Songs of Deliverance Publicly!  David and the warriors of the Old Testament did so.
(2)  Teach and Proclaim the Word of God Regularly village by village. Jesus did so.
(3)  Local Churches Planted and Established.

“The best Evangelism Strategy and Discipleship Making Mission is the PLANTING of CHURCHES”  Peter Wagner has boldly stated that church planting is “the single most effective evan gelistic method under heaven.”
To intentionally plant a Local Church and sustain it, may well be the best evangelistic method you could employ in any existing community.  (Church Planting Experts and Missiologists would agree)
Church Planting should not be an ACTIVITY … it should be a DEDICATION of Life, Time, Talents for the harvest souls and the discipleship of new believers.

OBSERVATIONS from an Expert ...
New churches are more flexible arid open to change.
New churches welcome new members.
Older churches tend to become closed social groups that do not welcome new members.
In newer church’s the friendship networks have not yet solidified and the members are more accepting of new people.
New churches are needed to reach new generations.
New churches are needed to reach outside locations.
New churches are needed for new communities.
Wise denominations track development in their cities and plant new churches.
New churches are needed to reach various ethnic groups and classes of people.                                                  —————Prepared by Pastor JR for His Life Ministries

COMMENTARY on Matthew 11:12 and MOVEMENT

Expositor's Greek Testament
Matthew 11:12.
The statement just commented on had to be made in the interests of truth and the Kingdom of God, but having made it Jesus reverts with pleasure to a tone of eulogy. This verse has created much diversity of opinion, which it would take long to recount.
I find in it two thoughts: one expressed, the other implied.
(1) There has been a powerful movement since John’s time towards the Kingdom of God.
(2) The movement derived its initial impetus from John.
The latter thought is latent in ἀπὸ δὲ τῶν ἡμ. Ιωάν.
The movement dates from John; he has the credit of starting it.
This thought is essential to the connection.
It is the ultimate justification of the περισσότερον (Matthew 11:9).
The apostle Paul adduced as one argument for his apostleship, called in question by Judaists, success, which in his view was not an accident but God-given, and due to fitness for the work (2 Corinthians 2:14; 2 Corinthians 3:1-18).
So Christ here in effect proves John’s fitness for the position of forerunner by the success of his ministry.
He had actually made the kingdom come.
That was the true basis of his title to the honourable appellation, “preparer of the way”; without that it had been an empty title, though based on any number of prophecies.
That success proved fitness, adequate endowment with moral force, and power to impress and move men. This being seen to be Christ’s meaning, there is no room for doubt as to the animus of the words βιάζεται, βιασταὶ. They contain a favourable, benignant estimate of the movement going on not an unfavourable, as, among others, Weiss thinks, taking the words to point to a premature attempt to bring in the kingdom by a false way as a political creation (Weiss-Meyer). Of course there were many defects, obvious, glaring, in the movement, as there always are. Jesus knew them well, but He was not in the mood just then to remark on them, but rather, taking a broad, generous view, to point to the movement as a whole as convincing proof of John’s moral force and high prophetic endowment.
The two words βιαζ., βιασ. signalise the vigour of the movement.
The kingdom was being seized, captured by a storming party. The verb might be middle voice, and is so taken by Beng., “sese vi quasi obtrudit,” true to fact, but the passive is demanded by the noun following.
The kingdom is forcefully taken (βιαίως κρατεῖται, Hesychius) by the βιασταὶ. There is probably a tacit reference to the kind of people who were storming the kingdom, from the point of view, not so much of Jesus, as of those who deemed themselves the rightful citizens of the kingdom. “Publicans and sinners” (Matthew 9:9-12), the ignorant (Matthew 11:25).
What a rabble! thought Scribes and Pharisees. Cause of profound satisfaction to Jesus (Matthew 11:25).

THIS SERIES will help us at HIS LIFE know the
POWER OF CONNECTING WITH GOD'S PEOPLE:  THE CHURCH
"It used to be that Sundays were set aside for church, rest and families.
But, for most people, Sundays have become just another busy day of the week with no time left for church or quality time with family. At the same time, more and more people are wondering why life isn’t working so well for them. Just as God rested on the seventh day after creation, He wired us to also need rest, relational connection and spiritual renewal once a week. Living Sundays the way God meant for them to be will lead to benefits that cascade into just about every area of life. Through the 5-week I Love Sundays campaign, your members and visitors will discover how their relationships, work, finances, and health can all be transformed by the decision to make Sunday the best day of their week!" -- from I LOVE SUNDAYS production

Make Sunday the Best Day of Your Week!

There is something about church attendance that makes it the most powerful investment of a person’s week—in fact, it has benefits that cascade into just about every area of life.

TIPS to Keep On STARTING

I gave this guide among others to TWO people [Arjay and Dandan] as they went to do some survey in Manila, Cagayan and Iloilo.
It was A DAY SURVEY in each location:
  • TAKE as many pictures along the way.
  • WRITE as many thoughts along the way.
  • BE OPEN to NEW RELATIONSHIPS along the way.
  • ENGAGE people … from all walks of life … learning a little here a little there.
  • BUY a local NEWSPAPER … and bring HOME TO BACOLOD for more STUDY.
  • KNOW the largest and most successful church group in town … lets learn from them.
  • HAVE FAITH EYES and EARS in ACTIVATION.
  • PREPARE ALL for #2016HLMnational … let them have NEXT1000
  • SHARE our VERSE2016:  “for the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea”  Habakkuk 2:14
    • MEMORIZE VERSE ABOVE … have activity right there and then!
"culture of NEW BEGINNINGS"
------------
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS:

  • the 1st thing to RENEW is your MIND!
  • NEVER limit Evangelism and Discipleship to your CURRENT SITUATION.
  • TIP:  The more successful you are at this time, the more prone you are NOT to BEGIN in another PLACE, VENUE, LOCALITY.  Be careful to rest on success ... rather cast your all to the idea of "for the earth will be filled With the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea" HABB 2:14.  --- whats the point?  THE POINT is go to places where there is ABSENCE of the glory of the LORD, then START!
  • If you cannot GO, send your BEST!
  • THIS IS THE CULTURE of NEW BEGINNINGS.

2. YOU may renew to be a LAUNCHER in another VENUE. Remember more places and territories and regions are just ready for the picking (HARVEST).

------------
** IMPORTANT NOTE: Launch Team LEAVES for the PASTORAL TEAM [5Ws with their Site Leadership] to HANDLE THE NEW CHURCH.  Some groups call the PASTORAL TEAM, the CORE TEAM.  We call it the PASTORAL VISION TEAM at HIS LIFE.

ideas from Nelson Searcy, author of LAUNCH.
"One of the proven “contrarian” principles for starting a new church is assembling a launch team rather than a core group.  The difference is much more than just what you choose to call this essential group of early adopters." -- Nelson Searcy

"You may have heard the term “core group” applied to this initial team, but there is a big difference between
a launch team and a core group. It’s interesting to see how many churches have sabotaged their launch by treating their launch team like a core group."

JOURNEY of NEW BEGINNINGS #theNEXT

THE NEXT >>

"the NEXT"
is a KEY IDEA exploding in His Life Ministries
at this moment!
------------

I believe it will not only be "at this moment" but it will STAY!
It has to be staying ... it is a culture being cultured.

FUTURE is the one that drives us to think of "the NEXT".
After all our glorious destiny is found "there".

We are BELIEVING for the NEXT Generation to LEAD.
  • that's the reason why we are training young preachers to preach the Word of God.  It has to be Biblical Preaching!
  • that's the reason why we are surveying Campus after Campus, and starting to intentionally do ministry among the Freshmen.  This is around the country!
  • that's the reason why we are not only having CrossOVER Weekends for our High School and College students, but this time even planning a strategic one for our LAMBS.  God can use children!

We are BELIEVING for the NEXT NEW and BETTER churches to be launched to do the will of JESUS -- seeking and saving the LOST, bringing them to "perfection" [maturity] through discipleship.
  • IF IT HAS TO BE DONE through mergers, we do it.
  • IF IT HAS TO BE DONE through closures, we do it.
  • IF IT HAS TO BE DONE at a high end venues, we do it.
  • IF IT HAS TO BE DONE without a venue, we must still do it!
  • IF IT HAS TO BE DONE among the poor, we do it.
  • IF IT HAS TO BE DONE among the rich, we do it.
  • IF IT HAS TO BE DONE ____________________FILL IN THE BLANKS ...

We are as "THE NOW" ought to live today for "THE NEXT".
  • this is THE commitment to REACH our children's children in the spirit of covenant disciple-making.
    • -- MEANING: we ought to do THE ONE THING for LIFE, Jesus left us with!  His Last Command must be in Demand" -- in all that we do and be!  We will not STOP discipleship!  never ... and "lo, I will be with you until the end of the age" [JESUS in Matthew].  DISCIPLESHIP is GENERATIONAL EVANGELISM to the core!  May our BLOOD-LINE be redeemed because of the commitment we make TO MAKE Jesus' Last COMMAND to be in DEMAND!
  • this is THE commitment to SPOT emerging faithful and sacrificial young leaders displaying qualities of JESUS' culture and attitude/s that are above average.  Reveal these to use LORD.  WHO ARE THEY :-)

SERMON: THE GRAVE ROBBER
(By Mark Batterson) Scripture: John 11:25-26
Main Idea: Everyone wants a miracle. But here’s the catch: No one
wants to be in a situation that necessitates one! Of course, you can’t
have one without the other. The prerequisite for a miracle is a problem,
and the bigger the problem, the greater the potential miracle.
He is the God who can make your impossible possible!

SERMON: THE REALITY OF THE RESURRECTION
(By Wilfredo “Choco” De Jesús) Scripture: John 20:26-29
Main Idea: It matters how we treat the resurrection. It either entertains
us or propels us forward. Jesus’s resurrection is meant to
be real in our everyday lives—not tucked away in some nice little
story, but living, breathing, and powerfully stirring our lives just as
it was in the lives of the disciples.

SERMON: THE WORK OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
(By Dr. George O. Wood) Scripture: Acts 2:1-4
Main Idea: The Holy Spirit’s arrival at Pentecost fulfilled Jesus’s promise in Acts chapter 1, resulting in great revival and a worldchanging
missions movement that is still happening today.

SERMON: STAND
(By Herbert Cooper) Scripture: Acts 4:18-20
Main Idea: Every day for the rest of our lives, we will face circumstances
and situations where we have to choose whether we will
stand for Christ. Peter and John had every reason in the world to not
stand for Christ. They were imprisoned, threatened, and their lives
endangered, but they chose to stand and God did powerful things in
and through their lives.

SERMON: YOU CAN’T STOP THE UNSTOPPABLE
(By Christine Caine) Scripture: Acts 5:29-32
Main Idea: God used the martyring of Stephen to bring about
growth, expansion, influence, and eternal life. What seemed to be
an impossible situation and a dead end became the beginning of
new life and the pathway to salvation for many.

SERMON: THE PEBBLE PLAN
(By Phil Hopersberger) Scripture: Acts 1:8
Main Idea: Start making a concerted effort to share the Gospel
and be involved in the Great Commission right where God has you
today, in your Jerusalem, and be open to “ring out” even farther to
your Judea or Samaria, or even to the ends of the earth.

SERMON: THE DRAGON DILEMMA
(By Phil Hopersberger) Scripture: Romans 8:28-29
Main Idea: Just as was true for the believers in the early Church,
God has a purpose for trials and persecution in each of our lives.

SERMON: UNDENIABLE: WHAT EVEN SKEPTICS BELIEVE
(By Dr. Rice Broocks) Scripture: Acts 9:1-16
Main Idea: In a court of law, the burden of proof is “beyond a
reasonable doubt,” not “possible doubt.” Skeptics say things like
“Isn’t it possible that His disciples stole His body and then went out
to preach He had been resurrected?” Yes, that’s possible, but it’s
not reasonable. To make a rational, reasonable decision, we don’t
really need 100 percent certainty about anything. In the same way,
God has given us enough evidence to believe.

Leading a Thousand: MILLENEIUM PASTORING

"Minds have to change for ACTIONS to be redirected to reach desired output"
- jr mamisok kalang quotes

- - - - - - - - - - - -

YOU cannot BE a Pastor of 1000 people if you are employing ideas and methods of pastoring only a HUNDRED!  Your MIND, WORDS, ACTS, PRAYERS and BEHAVIOR must change!
This includes the BOOKS you read and the PEOPLE you hang out with.

  • YOU must LEAD LEADGROUPS instead of LIFEGROUPS.
    • A LEAD Group is composed of LifeGroup Leaders who has the passion to make quality disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • YOU must READ Books and Articles on HOW to Pastor the Multitudes.
    • Multitudes and LARGE groups are only led through TEAMS of shepherds that believe the Vision together with you.
  • YOU must 1st be a LEADER of LEADERS
    • Grow leaders under you that will disciple others.
    • Grow leaders under you that will teach others.
    • Grow leaders under you that will organize CrossOvers without you!!! did you get that?  WITHOUT YOU :-)
    • Grow leaders that you are willing to unleash to PASTOR others without you!!!  did you get that?  WITHOUT YOU :-)
============IMPORTANT NOTE

June 12 2015, will be the INSTALLATION of our MILLENNIUM PASTORS here in Bacolod City.
  1. THEY will BELIEVE God for reaching and discipling the NEXT1000 from and within their CORNERS [north, south, east, west].
  2. THEY will BELIEVE God for a non-stop movement of Glorifying HIM and Making Disciples of JESUS in their life-time as they INTENTIONALLY invest in the NEXT Generation.
  3. THEY will BELIEVE God to be "SENIOR PASTORS" in the making, of the Sites, Schedules and Areas assigned to them.
============

additional thoughts:
John Maxwell taught us that there are leadership lids that limit our capacity as leaders.
The good news is we can learn how to lift those lids in order to rise above those limitations that keep us leading at a low capacity. If you have never hit your personal leadership lid, you surely have hit another leader’s lid that is lower than yours on your journey upward to new levels of leadership.
Here are 10 leadership lid lifters that have helped me catapult my leadership to new levels in the last 20 years.  (borrowed from DeanDeguara)

1) Never Accept Average.
Words such as ordinary, typical, usual, status quo are the results of leaders that are on cruise control. Above average leaders have their foot on the gas pedal of their organizations and are always looking for ways to improve things and push things forward bringing life and energy to their environment. Average leaders often times have their foot on the brake, killing the momentum of their organization and any excitement associated with anything new that will cause the life and vision of the organization to unfold.

2) Refuse to be Comfortable.
Leaders grow the most when the deliberately put themselves in uncomfortable situations. Sometimes the uncomfortable means stepping out in your weakness and acknowledging that there are others who could help you or do it better than you and allowing them to do it. On other occasions it’s doing something different than everyone else is doing.

3) Insist on Integrity.
Life is too short to put up with people that have no integrity. A leader without integrity has fallen into self-deception and will only lead an organization into the ground. Unless God has called you to the difficult task of bringing healthy culture to an organization, don’t tolerate people who don’t practice the principles they only claim to live by.

4) Stay Awhile.
You can choose to stay where you are at and grow through it, or leave and have to come back to it. Nothing increases your influence more than longevity. Leaving a leadership position prematurely could cost you years of influential investment. Before you leave, pray to stay first. There are times when leaving is a good thing for a leader and the organization, so my advice is pray to stay or be genuinely led to leave.

5) Take on Something Bigger than Yourself.
What are you doing right now that you can’t do without some outside help? If the answer is nothing you are comfortable and headed towards complacency as a leader. When we tackle things that our bigger than ourselves it requires us to trust God more, lean not on our own understanding, and live in a place that inspires others to greater possibilities. You become a better leader as a result of taking on something bigger than you can do on your own. Better is always found on the other side of the impossibility God has called you to make possible.

6) Rub Shoulders with High Capacity Leaders.
Connecting with high capacity leaders is essential if you want to lift your lid as a leader. If you are frustrated with where you are at as a leader and the status of where your organization is, find a leader leading an organization at the level where you want to be and learn from them. In today’s social media world you can connect easily with leaders that are looking to pour into your life as a leader. Make that call, send the tweet, leave a comment on their blog. Rubbing shoulders might not begin with a face to face, but when you take the initiative to connect it can open a door to get you to your desired destination.

7) Ask Why You Didn’t get the Job.
A couple years ago I was asked to submit my resume for a certain position I really wanted. I made it through the first round interview and after the second group interview was no longer a candidate.  I thought the position was a perfect fit for me, so after receiving the news, instead of just accepting the rejection I asked, “WHY?” The feedback I got back from that questions is actually the reason why I started this blog: To Encourage Leaders at All Levels! I believe some of the best leaders in the world are overlooked because organizations are looking for the wrong things and not the track record of a leaders life. Thousands have been encouraged by The Backseat Leader Blog because I personally wanted learn form this experience and I wanted to grow as a leader.

8) Replace Yourself.
If you are not raising up a person to replace you, you are ignoring one of the signs of  great leadership; the ability to develop others around you.  Lifting your leadership lid requires not being threatened by the leaders coming behind you, placed below you, or who have went before you. If insecurity is keeping you from duplicating yourself you are failing the litmus test of leadership. If you don’t know who is your successor there you will not have true leadership success.

9) Be a Life Long Learner.
If you fail to keep learning you will fail to keep leading.  When you get to a place where you think you know it all, you won’t grow at all! Here are several things I do to make sure I’m always learning.
  • I Have a Regular Devotional Life
  • I Regularly Read the Greatest Book Ever Written (The Bible)
  • I Read Books about Topics I’m Passionate About (Biographies, Business, Leadership)
  • I Blog and Interact with other Bloggers
  • I Listen and Learn a lot from Podcasts
  • I Meet with another Leader at Least Once a Month
10) Work Hard
I was taught at an early age not only to work hard, but what actually hard work was. Lifting your lid as a leader requires getting your hands dirty, a little sweat, some tears and at times pure exhaustion.  If you are afraid of hard work or have bought into the lie that you are above it. Your lid will always remain low. I read an alarming two paragraphs in S. Truett Cathy’s book “Eat Mor Chikin Inspire More People” that I would like to leave you with:

To continue making a positive impact on the people around us, we must avoid complacency in all aspects of our lives.  The dictionary defines complacency as “self satisfaction accompanied by unawareness of actual dangers or deficiencies.”  Too often we see people who are satisfied with mediocre performance and minor achievements.  They look next door and see that they are doing as well as their neighbor.  At work their accomplishments rank right up with the national average.

But look  at what it means to be average.  You are the worst of the best and the best of the worst.  You’re not achieving anything unusual, choosing instead to go with the flow.  When we do less than our best, we become discontent and “burned out.” Are you performing at your best?

If your frustrated in your pursuit as a leader, most likely there is a lid in your leadership life that needs to be removed. Removing this lid can be the most rewarding thing we do for ourselves and the people that follow our lead. Be honest, do the work, and become the leader you desire to be!
