LESSON VI
Our Source of Spiritual Power
Memory Verses:
John 14:16; Acts 1:8
Since we cannot live up to God's standards by ourselves, God has given us someone to help us.
1.
Our Helper has many names.
These names teach us much about his character and work. The following references tell us only a few of His names.
Matthew 1:18
Romans 8:2
Ephesiar.s 1:17
II Corinthians 4-13
John 14-17
John 14:16
2.
He is not just an impersonal power or influence.
He is a divine personality just as God the Father and God the Son are divine personalities. The Holy Spirit should never be refered to as "it", but as "him".
3.
In the Old Testament the Holy Spirit came "upon" certain individuals to empower them for certain work and then left them.
(see Judges 15:14 & 16:20; I Samuel 10:9-10)
What new relationship is there between the believer and the Holy Spirit in the New Testament? John 14:17
4.
What is the work of the Holy Spirit with the world? (unbelievers)
John 16:8-11 and John 15:26.
5.
What is the work of the Holy Spirit with believers?
John 14:26
Romans 3:26
Acts 1:8
Galatians 5:20
I Corinthians 12:4-7
(Read this whole chapter for a better understanding)
6.
The Holy Spirit can be hindered in his work in us. What two expressions does the Bible use to describe this?
Ephesians 4:30
I Thessalonians 5:19
Final Thoughts:
Although you may have training and skill in winning others to Christ, all of your efforts are useless without the power the Holy Spirit in your life.
There is a direct relationship (and being) between being yielded or surrendered to the Holy Spirit and being empowered or used by the Holy Spirit.
How yielded are you?
